WINNINGTON Park 1sts gave Didsbury Greys a run for their money on Saturday, and despite losing 2-1 produced an excellent team performance that will boost their confidence for the remainder of the season.

Chris Davies opened the scoring for Park with a well-taken corner but Didsbury responded with an equaliser just before half-time.

Park continued to play well in the second half but Didsbury managed to score from a fast break, and Park failed to create any further openings.

l PARK 2nds played their first league game of the year against Wilmslow and lost 3-2.

Winnington dominated the early stages of the game with neat passing moves which were rewarded by an excellent goal struck by Sophie Johnson.

However Wilmslow then upped their game and scored three goals before half-time, all created by a fast centre forward who left Park's defence for dead.

Park rallied after half-time and their hard work was eventually rewarded by a second goal from Julie Rafferty. The game also marked a confident debut by youngster Amanda Sharrock, who shows great promise for the future.

l THIS Saturday Park 1sts play Lancaster at Sir John Deane's College at noon, the 2nds have no game.
