WEAVER Valley Cycling Club wheeled in the old and the new at their 40th annual dinner and champions night.

It took place on Saturday at Wincham Hall, where cycling journalist Tony Bell entertained members from the past and present.

They were attending to honour the 40th anniversary of the club being formed as an offshoot of ICI Winnington's youth club in 1962.

The champions were: Senior and veterans best all rounder and 100ml: Garry Brown; 50ml: Paul Jaffrey; 10 and 25ml: Dave Mckay; Cyclo cross: Steve Thomas; Hill climb: Giles Bett; League International and LVRC champion: Mark Thompson; Horsfield Cup: Jayne Kew; Guardian Cup: Sarah Gregory; Raffa Cup: Tim Watts; Attendance Shield: Graham Gregory.

l FOUR Weaver Valley racing members, Garry Brown, Rob Dacey, Chris Mullin and Graham Gregory, have been competing at the Manchester Velodrome in the ACT Monday Night League.

Brown has been the most successful, finishing third in the points race and second in the 12-lap scratch.

Dacey was unlucky not to win the scratch race, breaking away on the fifth lap on his own and staying clear only to be caught within sight of the line and finish fourth.

Weaver Valley CC is holding a training weekend at Caernarfon Plas Menai, leaving Moss Farm at 8.30am on Saturday.

The 32 members will be riding through the Snowdonia mountains to spend the night at Plas Menai after 100 miles.

On Sunday the cyclists will make their way back followed by back up vehicles to rescue anyone that can't complete the 200-mile round trip.
