ANDREW Buckley snatched the Vale Royal Millennium Junior Golf Club Winter Series Order of Merit from Lewis Jackson in the final round.

The 12-year-old came second in the 12th event of the series as long-time leader Jackson, 10, was playing at the club's Junior Open in Marbella and unable to compete.

Andrew also won the EYG Order of Merit at Knights Grange for the six events played there.

Lewis gained consolation from the fact that he had accumulated enough points in the Order of Merit at Hartford prior to the last event to win by five points.

Presentation of all the winter events took place at the Oaklands Hotel in Gorstage last week: Overall Order of Merit: 1 Andrew Buckley 75; 2 Lewis Jackson 72; 3 Jonathan Winward 58. Hartford Order of Merit: 1 Lewis Jackson 38; 2 Andrew Buckley 33; 3 Corrie Topliffe 28. EYG Knights Grange Order of Merit: 1 Andrew Buckley 42; 2 Jonathan Winward 37; 3 Emma Goddard 34.

The six-event Tiger Winter Series was won by Josh O'Sullivan, aged nine, with 45 points, followed by Tom Rowlands with 31 points and Rob Britton with 26 points.

William Reid took the matchplay title with Jonathan Winward, the defending champion, runner-up.

Club chairman and PGA professional Graham Moore said: "The commitment we have from all our club members is exceptional.

"To have more than 60 players competing in the Winter Series in all weathers just shows their keenness."

For the forthcoming season Vale Royal Millennium Junior GC will be playing against six north west clubs on a home and away basis, including Royal Liverpool, Bramhall Park and Eaton.

Moore added: "To have such prestigious clubs as these offering to play us is very humbling and shows now that the clubs in the north west have accepted the world's first junior-only golf club."
