SATURDAY saw the top and middle cisterns at Anderton frozen over, so it was touch and go as to whether the third round of the Amanda Lester Cup would go ahead for Barnton and Frodsham anglers.

However, the Sunday match was staged, as the wind had lifted throughout the night, and, after missing most matches since the summer of 2002, Michael Greenwood emerged an easy winner.

Drawn on peg nine on the top, Michael used pinkie and pole at four, seven and 11 metres to winkle out roach, perch, rudd and gudgeon from in between the submerged weed beds for a weight of 2-2-2.

His largest fish was a perch of about 10 ounces and the rest of his net was made up of small fish.

Peg seven on the middle gave Chris Parry runners-up spot with a mixed net of roach, perch, gudgeon and two small skimmers for 0-9-14, his catch being taken at four and eight metres on worm and pinkie.

Third place went to junior section angler Craig Lightburn on peg six on the middle with 0-7-8 of small fish in the shape of roach, perch, and gudgeon taken close in by the small willow bush.
