TWO of Nantwich Town's hottest young talents are in line for trials with Football League clubs.

Top goalscorer Wes Wilkinson could hook up with Crewe while teenage sensation Ashley Lawton is due at First Division strugglers Stoke City.

Player-boss Nigel Gleghorn is over the moon for the duo.

"We would never stand in any player's way of making it into the Football League," he said.

"We're happy for them, it's good for them to get on and if they do go we'll bring in some local lads and try to develop them."

Both made their impact in a mixed week for the Dabbers.

Star of the show at Woodley Sports was undoubtedly 16 year-old Lawton.

After grabbing two goals as a late substitute in the 6-1 home victory against the same opposition, Lawton capped his full debut with a hat-trick in the return.

Sealing an incredible 6-5 victory in the 88th minute last Tuesday, it was a real see-saw match with Martin Packham (pen), Chris Willcock and Jon Dawson also hitting the target.

Three days later and derby blues followed at Congleton, losing 3-1 with Wilkinson's 20th goal of the season Nantwich's only consolation.

"It was a strange game at Woodley," continued Gleghorn.

"It was a mixture of poor defending and good attacking play at both ends.

"There weren't many chances missed in the first half.

"I was delighted with Ash, he's got a great attitude.

"I've got no complaints with the Congleton result. They played very well and went forward much more than we did.

"Our final ball was poor on the night. Congleton are a good side and it's a tough place to go but we always fancy our chances wherever we play."

Seventh in NWC Division One, Nantwich travel to Warrington (15th) on Saturday.

"They had a good result the other day and they're a funny side who can be up one day and down the next," he concluded.

"We'll have to be on our best to get the three points."
