SANDIWAY Primary School is looking towards a greener future - as it strives to become an ECO-school this year.
ECO-Schools is a Europe wide initiative that aims to raise children's awareness of environmental issues through their school lessons.
Pupils, teachers and governors at Sandiway Primary have formed a committee to drive the initiative forward.
Headteacher Gillian Thorley said: "The children compile their own newsletter and run competitions to raise awareness on environmental issues, particularly emphasising the importance of conserving the worlds resources."
Currently the children are taking practical measures to conserve energy by remembering to turn off lights, taps and closing doors.
To achieve ECO status a school must demonstrate a sustainable action plan to improve the environment.
The school must also extend the project into the wider community through projects that involve local residents and organisations.
