HALTON has forged even stronger friendships with its twin town in Tongling, by establishing another twinning link with local schools in both areas.

Tongling City, in the People's Republic of China, is the most recent of Halton's partner towns.

Four secondary schools in Halton already have links with corresponding schools in Tongling, the latest being Sts Peter and Paul School in Widnes and Tongling's Middle School No 10.

And, during a recent visit by the Chinese school's headteacher, she invited staff from the Widnes school to visit hers in Tongling and discuss future projects that the two schools could work on jointly.

The two areas chosen as twinning projects are arts and environment, which will be discussed by staff from both schools in the February break.

A twinning grant has been approved to help pay for a delegation of staff - including the headteacher, Michael Glover, and three teachers from the art, biology and geography departments - to visit Tongling.
