POP-UP Polly was tickled pink to help launch Britain's latest digital TV channel, BBC 3.

She is the only female clown chosen from more than 100 applicants to appear in a pioneering docu soap.

TV cameras followed her every move as she joined four male clowns for a gruelling 10 day trek across the Pennine Way.

Their fun-filled adventure is being screened on Johnny Vaughan Tonight, over the next seven weeks. A helicopter captures the opening credits as the five funsters explore the countryside.

Pop-Up Polly - alias Runcorn mum Susan Hurdsfield - can't spill the beans.

She said: "There were lots of really funny moments," said Pop-Up Polly, of Palacefields. "It was loads of fun.

"It was reality TV. They picked us very carefully. We each have different personalities. They wanted to see how we all mixed, the real life person underneath the clown. We were set tasks each day."

Pop-Up Polly shared her adventure with Cobblers, Happy, Little Mick and Tom Fun.

"There are a couple of story lines they didn't bargain for," she said. "But I'm sworn to secrecy. I forgot I was microphoned up half the time! I was waffling on about things.

"It was very hard work. It got stressful. We were all together from 9am to the early hours, for 10 days. But they were a really good bunch. We gelled very well."

Professional clown Pop-up Polly entertains children at parties, schools and special events. She was invited to clown around at Harrod's Christmas grotto. Her son, Thomas, 10, is Britain's third youngest junior clown.

She is confident her TV debut may lead to more exciting tales.

"Interesting story lines do come out," she said. "I don't think this is the end."
