YOU ASK for readers' comments on plans for a regional assembly in the North West.

If the performance of the existing NWRA in respect of motorway planning is anything to go by, it will be a disaster.

I understand that no decision on the MIDMAN recommendations could be taken at several meetings because insufficient members were present to form a quorum.

It did eventually decide to opt for four lanes each way on the M6 to junction 19 and a full motorway interchange at M6/J20. Fair enough. But it then qualified the decision by asking for a further study to see whether junction 20 was possible as the motorway link without widening the M6 between junctions 19 and 20 and closing the south slips at junction 19.

What a cop out!

It seems such a body is too remote to make informed, mature and responsible decisions, and we would be better sticking with Cheshire County Council who, by and large, are doing a good job.
