PUPILS from Woodford Lodge High School, Darnhall Primary and The Grange Primary all took part in performances at the first Cheshire Study Support Conference last Thursday.

The event took place at the Woodford Lodge Professional Centre, with 100 delegates attending a number of workshops to discuss the benefits of out-of-school-hours learning.

Study support is learning activity outside normal lessons which young people take part in voluntarily.

It embraces many activities and its purpose is to improve young people's motivation, build their self-esteem and help them to become more effective learners. Above all, it aims to raise achievement.

Workshops tackled subjects such as reading clubs, sustainability and mind-friendly learning and delegates also had the chance to enjoy an art exhibition featuring work by many of the performers involved in the day.

The three Winsford schools and Leftwich Primary put on performances that showed off the talents of all involved and delegates enjoyed the chance to see pupils express their artistic and creative abilities.

Rhythmic gymnastics, dance, drama and music from steel and samba bands all featured and organisers are now hoping that the conference will become a landmark event.
