WITTON Albion Reserves have received a massive boost in their bid to win the Crewe and District League at the first time of asking.
Albion won their appeal to the Cheshire FA against the league's decision to dock them three points for failing to fulfil a midweek fixture earlier in the season.
The appeal was upheld on a technicality, the league having failed to notify Witton in writing of the original charge within the required seven days.
Even better for Albion was Saturday's 4-0 victory on the ground of leaders Winnington Avenue with goals from Tony Palmer (2), Christie Ford and Jimmy Blinkhorn.
Palmer's second was the team's 100th goal of the season and they now lie only one point behind Avenue from equal games.
Favourites for the title remain Congleton Athletic, whose 100 per cent record stretches to 11 games.
