Farsley Celtic 0 Witton Albion 1

UniBond Division One

WITTON are seeing some reward for their promotion form, as victory at Farsley took them within one place of a play-off spot.

It's now eight games unbeaten for Benny Phillips, who despite not having anything like a full squad to choose from still led his side to a vital away win.

Almost needless to say, it came courtesy of a Mike Moseley goal, his 27th of the season arriving in the 10th minute.

Ironically, it came from a Farsley corner, which was punched clear by Paul Gibson to home centre half Matt Daley, who lost possession.

Adam Foy then released Moseley, who ran from the halfway line and galloped past Steve Ball before drawing goalkeeper Phil Straker and sliding the ball past him.

At this stage Witton were grateful for the game being given the go ahead, mainly thanks to a hot air system Farsley have in their stand, and the visitors came close to adding to the lead in the next 10 minutes.

However, they had a let off in the 21st minute when Stefan Zoll's overhead kick smacked the crossbar then Foy had to clear Michael Midwood's shot from the rebound off the line.

Witton had further opportunities to increase their lead before the break, but were also denied one by the referee, who chose not to point to the spot when Darrell Dicken appeared to be pushed in the area.

The second half was low on incident, which is the way Witton would have liked it as they held on to their slim lead, but they almost paid the price for their tactic of lying deep in defence.

Daley's drive clipped the top of the bar before, in stoppage time, Danny Spence was given the freedom of Farsley but fired wide with only Gibson to beat.

But Witton survived, ensuring a winning start to his career for Kevin Towney, the former Caernarfon Town winger who came on for his debut in the 79th minute.

Witton: Gibson, Sandeman, Furnival, Hughes, Simpson, Cunningham, Foy, Mallinson, Dicken (Towney 79), Moseley, Rendell. Subs not used: B Clegg, Wardle. Attendance: 141. Star man: Adam Foy.
