THE funeral was held recently at Davenham Parish Church for John Rutter who died on January 23, aged 85.
John was born in Middlewich to Arthur and Mary Rutter. He was one of a family of seven children, with brothers Arthur, Jim and Ernest and sisters Hilda, Lily and Doreen. He was brought up in Rudheath where he attended school. He married Margaret Wakefield in 1937 at Holy Trinity Church, Northwich. They first lived in Brook Street, Northwich before moving to Meadow Grove, Leftwich. He was widowed in 1991.
John served in the Royal Pioneers to complete his war service. He was employed at Joseph Parks as a steel erector. After his retirement he helped the market traders on Northwich Market. His interests included being a keen domino player and he was a regular at the Phoenix (Pillar of Salt).
He leaves son Paul, daughters-in-law Elaine and Margaret, nine grandchildren and several great grandchildren. The Rev Andy Greenhough conducted the service, which was followed by interment at Witton Cemetery. As well as floral tributes, donations were received for the High Dependency Unit at Leighton Hospital.
