THE funeral has been held for Donald Ditchfield, who died on December 22, aged 73.

Don was born in Great Budworth to parents Arthur and Martha Ditchfield (ne Harrison). He was one of three children. He attended school in Great Budworth, Lostock and later Rudheath.

In 1947 Don joined the RAF for seven years, stationed in Hastings as a leading aircraftsman. He met Ruby Richardson who was employed in the NAAFI in Sussex and they were married within six weeks of meeting each other.

On leaving the RAF Don was in the reserves. He was employed by Associated Octel and later worked at Northwich Bus Terminus as a panel beater for Crosville Buses. He and Ruby settled in Lostock and then Kingsway before moving to Rudheath.

Don's interests included gardening, DIY and his dogs. He loved travelling abroad with Ruby and he was a supporter of Manchester United FC.

He leaves wife Ruby, three sons Larry, Terry and Steven, seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.

The service at Crewe Crematorium was conducted by the Rev Paul Dawson and donations were received for St Luke's Hospice.
