THE funeral took place recently of Geoffrey Webb, of Woodpecker Drive, Leftwich, who died on January 22, aged 68.

Geoffrey was the husband of Irene Webb and a dearly loved dad and granddad.

He was born in Castle and attended Darwin Street School. From an early age he had a keen interest in all sports, especially football, playing for his school team, youth team and the Cheshire School Boys.

He also played as a youth team player for Manchester United and later played for Northwich Victoria Reserves and Lostock.

His National Service was spent in the Army, part of that time was served in Kenya. From leaving school he was employed as an apprentice draughtsman at Henry Smiths, Winsford where he remained for many years before taking employment with Development and Construction, based in Manchester, where he worked for 20 years until his retirement.

A keen DIY enthusiast and gardener, he also enjoyed bowling at Davenham Bowling Club, fishing and was also a member of Crewe Golf Club.

He was married to Irene for 42 years and leaves her, three children and five grandchildren.

Family, relatives, work colleagues and friends attended the service at Holy Trinity Church, Castle, prior to interment at Witton Cemetery. The Rev Sheila Hughes officiated.

Floral tributes and donations to The British Diabetic Association were received.
