NEW striker Will Hurley had an instant impact in his first full game for Alsager Town on Saturday.

Hurley scored twice in a comfortable 2-0 home win for Alsager over bottom side Atherton Collieries.

Hurley played for Barnton, and was signed by Alsager boss Greg Clowes six weeks ago.

His goals came in the first half of a game which saw Atherton create hardly a chance.

Alsager should have taken the lead in the 10th minute when a shot from Redgate hit the keeper's legs.

They continued to put Atherton under pressure, which paid off when Hurley put his side ahead on 22 minutes with a fine shot.

Alsager increased their lead two minutes before half-time when Hurley scored his second with another excellent shot, this time from 20 yards.

Alsager kept up the pressure in the second half, Redgate, Rowe and then Hurley going close.

Powner had only one save to make in the match, when he kept out a 15-yard drive from Martin 10 minutes from the end.

"Atherton looked a very poor side, and it was plain to see why they are bottom of the league," said Alsager press officer Sam Brotherton.

"We had Kinsey, Timms and Brotherton missing, but their replacements, John Wood, Stuart Wood and Steve Grocott did exceptionally well."

Grocott has been out with a leg injury, and Kinsey will miss the rest of the season through suspension.

Alsager Town reserves reached the final of the Crewe Cup by beating Alsager College 4-2, with goals from Clewlow, Simpson, Barber and Hammond.

Alsager travel to mid-table Fleetwood tomorrow.
