MORE than 200 pupils at St Aelred's Catholic Technology College took to the stage last week, daring to perform Shakespeare's 'Scottish Play'.

Students laid aside their superstitions to soak up some culture and take on the parts of Macbeth, his manipulative wife, and his best friend Banquo, as part of an interactive study day.

A team of students from Liverpool Hope University and sixth-formers from St Aelred's led the study day for the 14-year-old pupils under the guidance of former teacher Barbara Lloyd-Jones. The school's head of English, Bev Lawford, said: "These pupils are already familiar with the play but this opportunity will enhance their experience as well as being a dynamic preparation for Key Stage 3 SATS."
