A NEWTON couple who have devoted more than 40 years to youth work are appealing for help in their attempt to organise a founders' reunion of Newton Boys' club, now known as the Young People's Club.

Bob and Sheila Selby, each have 40 year long service awards in recognition for their hard work and dedication to the Lancashire Association Boys' Clubs and were among the original helpers when the club opened in Grafton Street, Earlestown, in 1962.

Mr and Mrs Selby, who now live in Ashton-in-Makerfield, helped take members to camps in the countryside, Bob was a keen soccer tournament organiser while Sheila arranged a girls' section and helped with refreshment.

Before the boys club began, Bob was with Newton Sea Cadet Unit and was one of their leading footballers and boxers.

He has also worked with three county secretaries and directors of the Lancashire association and also worked with boys' clubs at Red Bank Approved School and in Poulton-le-Fylde.

If you were one of the original helpers or members of Newton Boy's Club, contact Bob on 01942 201618.
