THE leader of Warrington Borough Council says war on Iraq can only be contemplated if the world unites.
Clr Mike Hughes said that conflict would be "unthinkable" without a joint UN resolution.
He added: "We have made a resolution at council that there should be no war without a UN mandate and that is fairly clear.
"All right-thinking people would agree with that. I am not a pacifist, but I believe in the UN and I believe it should be exercising its enforcement rule in terms of international rule in a unified manner.
"The current situation is seen to be targeting an individual country when clearly there are other countries in the world similarly flouting United Nations resolutions and are producing weapons of mass destruction, or have ownership of them."
