When will the ostriches of Warrington remove their heads from the sand and wake up to the latest act of public indecency by Warrington Borough Council?

Yes you've guessed it, this is another moan about the council tax hike or to put it another way, the rape of the common people.

Why is it that the people of Warrington have got to bail out the council for its mistakes?

We are told that services will be cut if we do not pay more. Well let us not pay any more and see what happens?

After all, services haven't been getting any better recently, have they? So why are we throwing good money after bad?

What about the butchery of our greenbelt land for new housing - for example, the large building site in south east Warrington formally known as Lymm, and many other urban areas.

To me, new houses add up to more income for our council. With an average of £1,000 per household per year it does not need a mathematician to work out the extra income gained by the council for allowing 500 new houses to be built!

I do not think it would cost £500,000 a year to empty the bins, provide a few extra school places and welcome the occasional visit by the local bobby (oh, we do not have them anymore do we..?).

How many new houses have been built in Warrington over the last few years?

Stop press - 377 proposed new houses on Bewsey Road. An estimated £377,000 goes into the council coffers.

What surprises me more, though, is the Warrington mentality - 'I have always voted Labour and so have my parents'.

Do you want to go faster? Hang on to your Labour council, they are taking you for one hell of a ride.

Wake up and decide. It is your money.

S PARRY,

Thelwall
