IMPROVEMENTS to the two existing football pitches in Orford Park are now set to take place following a successful bid to Sport England for £47,740.

The money has been awarded to the council for the installation of new drainage systems, which will enable football clubs to enjoy using the pitches through the year.

The scheme forms part of the Orford Park Development Plan, which will eventually include additional football pitches, mini pitches, all weather pitches, changing rooms, cycle paths and a sports hall.

Clr John Kerr Brown, executive board member for neighbourhood services, said: "Many football matches have to be cancelled because the pitches cannot stand up to constant use during wet weather and so these improvements will be of great benefit to football clubs and the whole community."
