I TOTALLY agree with your correspondent 'Observer' (Star letters, February 13) concerning the motorists at the Windle Island lights who, to avoid the standing line of traffic in the direction of St Helens/Manchester from Rainford/Ormskirk, use the Liverpool lane to cut in at the last minute.

As a daily user of the route I have seen this happen many times. It is an accident waiting to happen.

Another contentious section of the junction is the one from Bleak Hill Road onto Rainford Road. Every morning cars speed past me on the wrong side of Bleak Hill Road to get to the junction ahead of everyone else. They then force their way in front of the drivers who have probably been waiting 10 to 15 minutes or more. Again it is only a matter of time before an accident occurs.

I appreciate that the problems of the junction are complex, but they are made worse by irresponsible drivers and dangerous driving. Perhaps it is time for the police to check out the junction periodically at peak times and to bring these rogue drivers to task.
