BEWARE Warrington Wolves - Huddersfield Giants are out to get you!

That was the message from the Giants head coach Tony Smith on the eve of one of the most important games of his career.

Since leading his troops to promotion from the Northern Ford Premiership last season, Smith has been wheeling and dealing like Del Trotter in a bid to get Huddersfield up to Super League standard.

He has brought in nine new players and, despite a shock Challenge Cup exit at the hands of National League side Hunslet, he is convinced that his players have what it takes to win Saturday's Super League opener.

Smith rates the Wolves highly and is full of praise for the work done by Paul Cullen but he sees chinks in Warrington's armour.

Smith said: "We have picked up a lot of injuries in pre-season but I still see Saturday's game as one we can win. We have a good squad and we are looking forward to the big game."

Huddersfield's head coach acknowledges that it is vital that his team gets their campaign off to a good start.

The last thing he wants is for his team to be playing catch-up part way through the season and he has signed the likes of ex-South Sydney Rabbitohs player Anthony Colella plus former Newcastle Knights duo Julian Bailey and Jarrod O'Doherty to make sure that does not happen.

He has also kept the bedrock of last season's success, retaining the services of 11 players who were on the Giants books in 2002.

Smith said: "Getting back into Super League is very exciting for everyone involved with the club but we are not getting carried away. We know that there is a lot of hard work to be done and we will approach every game in a professional manner."

Huddersfield look sure to be given great support in 2003 as the Giants have broken the £100,000 season ticket sales barrier for the first time in their history.
