AN emotional day has been planned in the town centre to mark the symbolic 10th anniversary of the Warrington IRA bombing.

Based on three separate themes - Remembrance, Thanksgiving and Commitment - a moving tribute will unravel throughout March 20, with the day beginning with a church service held at Holy Trinity, Sankey Street.

The service is organised for invited guests and people closely involved with the 1993 bombing, but will be relayed to the public outside via speakers.

After the service, the focus will move down to Market Gate for a period of thanksgiving, before crowds gather by the Bridge Street memorial plaque, outside Boots.

Warrington Ireland Reconciliation Enterprise will then take over proceedings, with school children carrying placards in a poignant march from Bridge Street to the town's heralded peace centre.

Abigail and Dominic Parry, the brother and sister of Tim who died from the terrorist blast, will end the chain before mounting a bronze vessel, filled with water from the River of Life sculpture, at the peace centre.

Terry Waite, the Lymm-born national hero who found fame during the 1980s when he was held hostage by a group of Lebanese militants, will also attend the anniversary.

Bob Williams, spokesman for the borough council, said: "The event will take place in the town centre, as after discussions, it was considered appropriate that it should be held in and around the site of the bombing.

"The event has been organised by the borough council with initial arrangements co-ordinated by a small team of council officers and prominent church leaders.

"It promises to be a very emotional day but will mark such a tragic event in a most fitting way. The event will mark the 10th anniversary of the bombing in a sensitive way, organised by the people of Warrington, for the people of Warrington."
