A GROUP of 45 Warriors of Warrington swimmers took Holywell by storm at the weekend.

They swept to victory in the Holywell Open Valentine Meet with a total of 83 top six places - including 23 wins and five meet records.

Anthony Walker, James Miller and Jonathan Gatley won 'top boy' awards in the 11-year, 12-year and 13-year categories respectively while Amy Pegnam and Kate Eccles picked up the 14-year and 15-year 'top girl' awards.

Meet records were set by James Miller in the 12-year boys' 200m individual medley in 2mins 41.63secs and the 12-year boys' 100m backstroke in 1min 10.20secs, Amy Pegnam in the 14-year girls' 100m breaststroke in 1min 15.91secs and the open 200m breaststroke in 2mins 42.09secs plus Kate Eccles in the 15-year girls' 200m individual medley in 2mins 28.80secs.

Both of Amy's times were national qualifying times for the British Youth Championships to be held in August and Kate also achieved a NQT as she won the 15-year girls' 100m breaststroke in 1min 15.24secs.

Andrew Bushell also swam inside a meet record as he secured a silver medal in the 14-year boys' 100m freestyle in 58.45 seconds.

The Warriors with the largest medal hauls were 11-year Anthony Walker, four gold and a silver, 13-year Jonathan Gatley, four gold, 14-year Amy Pegnam, three gold, a silver and a bronze, 12-year James Miller, three gold, 15-year Kate Eccles, two gold and three silver plus 15-year Anthony Pontifex, two silver and two bronze.

Numerous other Warriors swam personal best times at the meet. Those who knocked 10 seconds or more off their entry times were Katherine France, Yian Smith, Nicole Lynam, Joe Maund, Ryan Gilbody, Phillip Cooper, Marc Pomfret, Charlotte Atherton and Jonathan Gatley.
