LYMM Angling Club member Bill Bailey was not deterred from fishing on Founders Pool at the back end of last week despite the formation of ice.

Luckily the ice was all at one end of the pool and Bill tackled up his feeder rod and commenced to fish well out into the water with red maggot on the hook.

His endeavours were soon rewarded with a string of roach, rudd and perch.

Some of the roach were approaching the 1lb mark. However, his best fish was a perch of 3lbs.

Village Pool, which has benefited from the attentions of recent work parties with work done to improve pegs and paths, has continued to deliver the goods in its time honoured way. The water rarely lets anyone down regardless of the weather conditions.

Over the road on Whitley Pool, things have been quiet with only a few members prepared to give it a go.

Whitley specialists will no doubt be waiting for it to kick into gear. This is usually marked by the first sightings of uncoloured goldfish and often proceeded by carp getting into a feeding mood.

Grimsditch Mill Pool has been producing good bags of skimmers, roach and rudd to caster. Nevertheless, worm sections have been scoring best when the water has been coloured.

Member Eddie Philips had this bait adjustment worked out enough to win last week's Winter Series match. However, he did point out that it had been hard work to build up his match winning weight.

Lymmvale water keeper Mike Wilkinson has reported that big chub have continued to dominate action on this specimen water with fish weighing more than 6lbs 8ozs 0drms reported.

Carp action has been slow although this has not deterred the site specialists who have continued to give Lymmvale their attentions.

The best sport for carp has came from Founders, Village and Belmont pools.
