THERE were a host of outstanding performances put in by Warrington Athletics Club members in the Cheshire Cross Country League at Woodbark Park in Stockport.

The club's under 11s boys team secured gold medal glory thanks to fine running by Matt Ainsworth, fourth, Mike Stewart, fifth, Joe Daintith, seventh, Stuart Hancocks, 11th, William Jones, 19th and Danny Jackson, 20th.

Warrington's u11s girls team finished second overall with Cassie Irving, second, Louise Sullivan, fifth and Rebecca Kerr, ninth, leading the way.

Rachael Clarke, 18th, Sophie Kerr, 25th, Lara Davison, 29th, Amy Dutton, 39th and Heidi Williams, 40th, also ran well.

The club were unable to field an u13s boys team but Danny Cliffe, second, Matt Jackson, fourth and Mike Williams, 15th, shone as individuals.

Only two Warrington runners took part in the u13s girls race. They were Emma-Jane Jones, who finished 21st, and Hayley Darbyshire, who came 28th.

Three Warringtonians competed in the u15s girls race. Karina Royden, Heather Roberts and Rebecca Brassington finished in fifth, 14th and 22nd position respectively.

Tom Sherrington was the club's only runner in the u17s boys event. He crossed the line in third place while Emma Dartnell, 11th, Fiona McGrath, 23rd, Suzanne Andrews, 29th and Claire Irons, 35th, gave a good account of themselves in the senior women's race.

In the senior men's section, Graham Ratcliffe made a welcome return from an 18-month injury lay-off. He finished in 47th position and was followed home by Dave Bibby, 67th and Neville Jones, 74th.
