Mr Wilfred Thompson, husband of Mrs Nellie Thompson, died on January 18 of pneumonia. He was 91.
Mr Thompson, of Scarborough, formerly of Billington Avenue, Newton, had lived in Newton for 89 years. He was a crane driver at Vulcan Foundry all his working life.
He enjoyed market gardening, walking, classical and military music, and holidays abroad and at home. He was a regular worshipper at All Saints Church, where he had many friends.
Mr Thompson leaves his wife, three daughters, nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by a daughter.
A service was held on January 24 at All Saints Church, followed by cremation at St Helens. Mr D Hall officiated.
Arrangements were made by Merrony & Kynaston.
