IN the far-flung reaches of a New Zealand city live an ex-pat family from Windle whose son is beginning to take his first steps towards stardom by appearing as an extra in the blockbuster Lord of the Rings epic.

The Adamson family have lived in Upper Hutt, a city to the north of the capital Wellington, for six years.

Paul Adamson contacted the Star about his talented son Aaron (16) who has been bitten by the performing bug.

His dad Paul said: "He has always loved an audience. At the age of nine he joined the Christine Griffiths School of Dance. He would watch his older sister Amy dance and asked himself could he join in. he was the only boy in the dance classes. At this time he was playing rugby league for the Haydock Warriors under 10's. It was quite a contrast, dancing on Monday nights and rugby training on Wednesday nights."

As well as appearing as an extra in the epic film Lord of the Rings, Aaron has also appeared in The Tribe, which has been shown in the UK and various TV programmes in New Zealand.

He also is a talented musician, playing lead guitar for a band called Acrilic and has appeared in several musicals.

However picturesque New Zealand may be, it is the lure of things uniquely St Helens that the family miss.

"What we miss about St Helens," said Paul, "is the pubs. I miss being normal and loud. The Kiwis have no sense of humour, we still have the St Helens sense of humour and will never lose it. I also miss Pimblett's pies, I would kill for one."

He suggested though that Aaron wants to come back to St Helens soon and enrol at the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts in his efforts to become a professional actor.

Despite living thousands of miles away, he is keen to keep a corner of his house forever St Helens: "We need a real St Helens Star in the house. In fact you are all stars in St Helens in our eyes. If we get a copy, my wife (Jo) said she will put it on the coffee table as a permanent fixture."

He asked that any of his old friends and family in St Helens contact him at psycohippy@hotmail.com
