A POTENTIALLY lifesaving credit sized card containing personal and medical details is to be introduced with the aim of trying to alleviate non-essential 999 calls.

Also a 24-hour free phone crisis centre will provide advice varying from financial, to frozen pipes, electricians and MOT's.

The Crisis Card provides basic, quick and easily accessible first aid information such as how to treat bites, burns and bleeding. There is also a dedicated number on the card for details of first aid training courses run by Mersey regional Ambulance Service.

Crisis Card Managing Director Lucy Renwick said: "A crisis means different things to different people. A broken heating system could be deadly for an elderly person. Getting locked out of the house or a rat infestation is a crisis for anyone! "

According to Merseyside Regional Ambulance Service, 194 calls were received last November that were neither life threatening nor urgent and did not need emergency medical response.

Cards can be picked up from St Helens Hospital, most GP practices, dentists, libraries and leisure centres, pharmacies, supermarkets and other retailers in St Helens.
