TWO hammer-wielding thugs shattered 11 windows during a terrifying attack on a bus last Friday night. The duo went on the rampage after getting off the 10A bus on Prescot Road, when they began smashing the windows with the emergency hammer stolen from the bus.

It is believed the two offenders were among a gang of ten youths who got off the bus on Prescot Road at about 9.30pm on Feb 14. A spokeswoman for Arriva, the company which runs the bus service between Liverpool and St Helens, confirmed the incident had happened. She said ten passengers were on the bus during the attack, but neither they nor the bus driver were injured.

A statement from the bus company read: "We are working closely with the police to identify, apprehend and prosecute the offenders."

The company are still assessing the cost of the damage, but said on Tuesday that the bus had now been off the road five days. They added that security measures are in place to help them catch such offenders.
