A TRAGIC mother whose daughter was murdered in mysterious circumstances 15 years ago is urging families who suffered similar heartbreak to gather for a special remembrance event.

Marie McCourt's 22-year-old daughter Helen was killed on a stormy February night in 1988 by pub landlord Ian Simms. Her body has never been found, prolonging Marie's nightmare

In Liverpool, on Saturday, at an event organised by support group SAMM (Support After Murder and Manslaughter) balloons will be released to remember victims of killings.

Marie will be there to release a balloon in memory of Helen. "We want people from the town who have relatives to come along and give us their support," said the 59-year-old from Billinge.

"We want to let the authorities see how many families are suffering from the loss of a loved one, and show that they are given very little support.

"Families, who have lost children, or those who have lost a brother or sister can come along to the event, and have a balloon released with a message and their loved one's name attached."

Road deaths will also be remembered at the event which marks European Victims Day. The balloon launch takes place outside St George's Hall, Liverpool City Centre (Opposite Lime Street Station) at 1pm, on Saturday, February 22. Relatives are advised to get there at about noon so the balloons can be prepared.
