Altrincham and District Amateur League Division One
Wellgreen FC 0 Knutsford FC A 0
THIS tough draw was a fair result against a team fighting for survival at the lower end of the table.
Although there were no goals to show for their troubles, there was plenty of goalmouth action at both ends of the pitch.
Goalkeeper Steve Downs was called upon to make a string of outstanding saves to keep Knutsford's clean sheet intact.
The visitors were awarded a free kick just eight yards from goal in the 12th minute but Pip Cartner's shot could not penetrate the wall of Wellgreen players packed on the goal line.
Points
Knutsford's inability to find the back of the net throughout the 90 minutes was the main concern in an otherwise decent performance.
Mark Sumner was again in the thick of the action alongside excellent Ashley Hughes in midfield.
In the second-half the action was end to end but neither team could find the breakthrough.
Mark Cartner came close for Knutsford but it was another brilliant save by Downs in the final five minutes that ensured they enjoyed a share of the points.
On Saturday the A team are at home to high-flying Sale Town. Kick off at Manchester Road is 2pm.
TEAM: S Downs, M Stimpson, A Jackson, A Potts, R Cocksedge, D Beattie, A Hughes, P Cartner, M Sumner, J Evans, M Cartner.
