STAR Premiership leaders, Penlake, certainly had a game on their hands when they faced fellow Premier side Stars FC in a D H Griffiths Section Three cup tie.

Although they ran out narrow 4-3 winners, they had to battle all the way for that success, Gareth Bourne (2), Frankie Jeffers and Kevin McNabb hitting the Penlake goals.

In the Premier Division, D J Motors are now making their presence felt, in their last three games they have recorded a 13-1 aggregate, their latest, a 5-0 demolition job away at Eccleston United.

Shoe, however, after suffering at D J Motors last week, took revenge on Windle Labour at Ruskin Drive, winning 4-2 despite Ian Kelly's two goals for the Labour.

In an unattractive game at Haydock, Old Congs and Sidac Social shared the spoils with a 3-3 draw, the Sidac goals coming via Mark Gavin, Andy Eaton and Alex Stephens.

The only Combination weather casualty was the Clock Face Miners v Grosvenor Park clash at Clock Face.

Jaxx Bar are still riding high at the top of Division One, a 3-1 home win through goals from Dave Wilcox, Neil Wright, Jeff Lea over Market Place.

Carborundum, following last weeks great performance at Pilkingtons, grabbed their first win of the season.

David Caldwell again on the mark with two, plus a fine effort from David Rawsthorne giving them a 3-2 home win over Junction at Bishop Road.

Prescot Leisure Reserves just ran out 2-1 home winners over Globe thanks to goals from Neil Connolly and Paul Clements. Moss Bank, although at home, did very well to hold York to a 1-1 stalemate.

Windle Labour Reserves, now residing at the top of Division Two, completely dominated the game at Ramford Ranges. A Jeff Highton hat trick plus other goals by Sean Taggart (2) and Jamie Taggart giving them a 6-1 win.

John Graham was Windledon's home scorer in a 1-3 home defeat by Clock Face Miners Reserves.

Smithy Manor are having mixed fortune lately, a home defeat last week, but this week they defeated Bowling Green 5-1 with goals by Craig Marks (2), Steve Costello and two from Mark Dollard.

Lingholme at Rainford North End were struggling 2-0 down, but a last five minutes revival resulted in a double strike by Steve Bannister forcing a 2-2 draw.

In the Sunday Division, Bleak Hill Rovers had their work cut out to outscore a hard-working Griffin outfit. They just managed it 4-2 in their favour.

Phil Travis (2), Neil Styles plus a Billy Platt own goal were responsible for the Bleak Hill goals and the Griffin goals came via Mark Jackman plus an own goal.

Penlake were superior in their 5-1 away beating of Millom Athletic.

Springfield were second best at Rainhill, Rocketeers winning 4-0.

In a thrilling game at Parr Stocks, Sony QA (Barrie Devlin (2), Jason King) were too good for Three Stags, winning 3-1.
