GOLBORNE barely had to break sweat to hit top spot in the Mid-Cheshire Soccer League on Saturday.

Barnton offered little resistance against Golborne's attack-minded play and the game was over as a contest by half-time as Golborne helped themselves to a 3-0 lead courtesy of a quality Townsend brace and a classy headed finish by Woods.

The second half was a dour affair on a gluepot of a pitch.

Golborne could and should have doubled their tally but they had to be content with a single strike from Forshaw which finished off a flowing move involving Scott Walker.

Golborne manager Ian Street said: "It was a terrible game to watch.

"Barnton were more intent on putting bodies behind the ball than offering any resistance in terms of attacking play.

"At least we picked up the points and can look forward to next week's difficult trip to one of our nearest rivals Malpas.

"They will still be smarting from losing to us in the semi-finals of the Divisional Cup."
