A WARRINGTON couple are planning to restore one of Britain's most haunted houses to its former glory to be used as there future home.

Andrew Taylor, who runs his own building business in Rixton, wants to renovate the haunted hideaway on the Shetland isle of Yell and is undeterred by its by its spooky reputation.

Windhouse has been surrounded by myth and speculation about ghosts since it was built in 1707 and rumours of apparitions are widespread - possibly a reason why it has been uninhabited by anyone living since the 1920s.

Mr Taylor, aged 40, and his partner Caron Reeves, aged 38, bought the property as an investment after searching the Internet and were attracted to the fact that it is located on an RSPB nature reserve.

Mr Taylor said: "This house has such a history that I don't want to build over that or remove it but restore it to its former state and let history live on.

"I've always enjoyed the great outdoors I don't think you could ask for a better location than on a nature reserve.

"We're not bothered by the hauntings either - if there are ghosts there I can see why they don't want to leave."

Robin Mitchell, RSPB Scotland's land agent, said: "The truth behind these tales remains a mystery but there are plenty of people who are 100 per cent convinced about the haunting of the old place."

The house is situated next to the RSPB Lumbister Reserve and is surrounded by internationally important wildlife and rare species of birds.
