TEENAGE field events starlet Gemma Llewellyn is looking to add to her medal collection at next month's English Schools Championship at the Don Valley Stadium, Sheffield.

And if the 16-year-old from Haydock finishes in the top two in the year 11 discus competition she could go on to represent England and compete against Ireland, Scotland and Wales, Colin Disley writes.

Gemma recently came first in the North of England Junior Championships held in Wavertree in the under 17-discus competition with a throw of 37m 17cm and was runner up in the shot 10m 80cm.

At the beginning of last month Gemma was victorious in the County Championships coming first in the discus and shot.

Gemma, ranked fourth in the country for her age, trains at Wigan Harriers but represents Merseyside at county and school events.

Representing Cowley Language College, Gemma broke the St Helens Schools record in the discus last year and two years ago she smashed a 34-year-old school's sports day record with a magnificent throw.

Gemma said: "I am looking to put in more work on my speed in the circle and overall throwing technique. And with those improvements I am hoping to throw the discus in excess of 40m which would be a great personal achievement."
