THROUGH your columns may I express the thanks of the St Helens Society for Deaf People to the public who gave generously, as usual, to our Flag Day on Saturday, May 24.
While there are many large national charities seeking financial support it is good that this local voluntary society is not forgotten.
The Society is 75-years-old this year and over that period of time has been in contact with hundreds of St Helens families where there has been a family member who is profoundly deaf or hard of hearing that we have been able to help or advise. We should never forget that one person in seven in the population has the experience of hearing loss.
If anyone would like to mark our anniversary, and add to the results of Flag Day with a special donation, they are asked to contact the Deafness Resource Centre, Dentons Green Lane WA10 2QB (01744 23887 text or voice).
FRANK Naylor, Chairman of Management St Helens & District Society for Deaf People.
