NEARLY 1,000 women laced up their running shoes in Warrington to raise thousands of pounds for Cancer Research UK on Sunday.

The Race For Life took place at Birchwood Business Park, with women walking, jogging and running the five-kilometre course.

Sharon Whitehead, who took part in the event, said: "It was a brilliant day and it was so nice to see so many women running for very personal reasons, and all of different abilities and ages.

"It was also heart-warming to see so many women who have recovered from cancer themselves taking part."

The Race For Life, sponsored by Tesco, takes place all over the UK and has raised a massive £35 million for Cancer Research UK since the event first took place in 1994.
