A PROJECT engineer from Appleton is set to scale England's four highest peaks in 24 hours, in memory of his late parents.

In a single day, Peter Deeks, aged 31, of Teddington Close, and three fellow climbers will be looking to conquer Skiddaw, Scafell, Scafell Pike and Helvellyn.

And it will be an especially poignant series of ascents for Peter, who is raising money for Cancer Research UK, as his parents Phil and Christine have both lost their lives to the condition in the past two years.

Beginning in the early hours of June 23 in Keswick, Peter and his crew - cousin Andrew Best, Lyndon Smith and Mark Ormerod - will have 10,000 feet of climbing under their belts by the following night.

"It's just something which stood out for me as being really challenging," Peter said.

Peter's already fine-tuning his preparations - he cycles to work at Serco Assurance in Risley each day.

And on the rare occasions that he has to drive, he embarks on a four- or five-mile run in his lunch hour!
