SOLDIERS from Warrington went out and about in Warrington this week to encourage more people to join the armed forces.

A detachment of 20 local soldiers from the Cheshire regiment went to Stockton Heath and demonstrated some of the Army's high- tech equipment.

It forms part of a tour that will culminate with a grand scale Beating Retreat ceremony in Chester tomorrow, Friday.

Major Bede Etherington said: "The soldiers are all looking forward to answering questions from the public and talking to potential new recruits.

"Over the past few years we have been based in Cyprus, the Falklands, Jordan and Northern Ireland so we are very excited to be home."

The Army has around 15,000 jobs available to 16-27-year-olds across the UK covering 140 different trades and professions.
