WARRINGTON'S two opposition groups have joined forces in a bid to save Warrington Baths by asking scrutiny bosses to re-evaluate the issue.
A group of five Liberal Democrat and Conservative councillors want the decision called in, claiming that proper procedures were not followed. Lib Dem councillor Ian Marks said two reasons were being cited - an alleged lack of consultation with users, and a failure to properly explore alternatives.
He added: "Closure would drive a coach and horses through the council's social inclusion policy."
Conservative councillor Sheila Woodyatt said the council had handled the affair badly adding: "We as a Conservative group are going to give every support possible to the people of Warrington and the competitive swimmers, of whom we should be very proud as a town.
"A town the size of Warrington needs a pool."
