FIREFIGHTERS in St Helens have joined forces with SureStart to hold demonstrations and offer general information and safety advice to families during National Child Safety Week.

The campaign week runs from Monday June 23 to Sunday June 29 and sees the firefighters join forces with their community team to make sure the message gets across.

A special event held at St Helens Fire Station, Parr Stocks Road, on Thursday, June 26, will give members of the public the opportunity to see at first hand some of the important work the fire service does.

The event is open to all from 10am until 3pm and will demonstrate the extensive range of equipment carried on a fire engine to deal with any emergencies.

SureStart will be offering advice and support to families with young children and showing a range of products specially designed to keep your child safe from harm.

The firefighters and community team will also be offering FREE smoke alarms and FREE home safety checks.

District community officer, Steve Gille, said: "Fire and safety in our homes are issues we tend to overlook in our daily lives until it's too late.

Whether you have or are expecting a new baby or your child has started to play with your lighter. If you have a friend or aged relative who doesn't have a smoke alarm we can help reduce the risks to your family and much more."

The event promises to be fun for all the family while improving home safety and saving lives.
