FIRST of all I would like to say how sorry I will be to see Tommy Martyn and Paul Newlove leave at the end of the season.

They have both now been told that will not be having their contracts renewed.

Both have been great servants to this club and have both been instrumental in helping Saints to be so successful.

Both have still much to give to the game and will be sadly missed, but the club has decided new blood is needed for next season.

Looking back to Sunday's game I thought we showed quite a lot of character in coming back from 24-10 down.

Warrington's tails were really up at one stage and then we clicked.

Obviously we have hit a really bad patch - stemming from that Challenge Cup semi-final defeat which really knocked the stuffing out of us.

But what we need to do now is get back to basics and knuckle down to doing the simple things right.

That means cutting out the daft errors and silly penalties, keeping hold of the ball and putting pressure on our opponents.

There were times on Sunday when we really clicked - and was quite pleased to get a few bursts up that left hand side once I had moved away from the prop role.

Looking ahead to Friday night's derby against Wigan - I see it as a massive game.

I believe our season hinges on this game, especially if you look at the sort of month we have ahead of us.

After this we have to go to both Leeds and Bradford in June.

If we lose and suffer another dip you can really see us struggling to make it into the top six, which is unthinkable for a 'top two' side.

But if we win it could kick-start our year again to finish in the highest possible place.

We still have the quality here and if we get a decent finish we will be well placed to defend our title.

So back to Friday - it is definitely a must win game for the team and for the town.

Wigan have won four out of the last five games and it is high time we reversed that trend.
