CONGLETON CC 1st XI raced to a convincing 7-wicket victory at Warrington, last Saturday.

Looking to end a dismal losing streak of three in a row, the boys got the job done in fine fashion with a complete all-round display.

Congleton bowled well, fielded well and held all their catches before doing the business with the bat to seal success with a mammoth 30 overs still to go.

Top order batsman Paul Mitchell continued his rich vein of form with an unbeaten 42 to see them home, on the back of a sensational 97 in that disappointing defeat against rock-bottom Grappenhall.

It was with the ball though that Congleton gave themselves a chance of erasing that slip-up.

Warrington won the toss and elected to bat first but were soon in trouble against some accurate and penetrative bowling.

Mohammed Sohail was without doubt the pick of the bowlers returning superb figures of 3 for 12 from 12 overs.

But Stuart Adlam (2 for 17), Andy Farr (2 for 26), Colin Mountford (2 for 4) and Asif Saeed (1 for 28) all chipped in and were supported by some excellent catching.

Skipper Adrian Dale held two and there was one catch each for Saeed, Sohail and Farr while keeper Toby Miller also had one together with a smart stumping as Warrington were skittled for a lowly 93 in 45 overs.

With 55 overs to get the required runs, confidence was running sky high and the visitors wasted no time in reaching their target.

Class act Mitchell built on his highest score in a number of seasons with a solid unbeaten 42 to steer them home in only 25 overs.

The vital support came from Saeed (11), Rob Porter (12) and Farr (17no).

"We showed our true ability in this match, which can only bode well for the rest of the season if we can manage to keep this side together," said a club spokesperson.

Congleton took the maximum 25 points from the encounter, lifting them up into 5th place in ECB Division One.

They entertain Toft, tomorrow, 1.30pm start.
