A YOUNG father has become the latest victim of a 'killer road' in Nantwich after he lost his life on a motorcycle near to Faddiley.

Paul Barnett, 29, of Lincoln Avenue in Newcastle-under-Lyme, was killed after he was in an accident on the A534 Wrexham Road on Thursday.

Inspector Brian Lancaster, of Cheshire Police, said: "The collision involved a silver Mercedes motor car travelling towards Wrexham and two motorcyclists travelling in the opposite direction towards Nantwich."

Mechanical technician Mr Barnett suffered fatal injuries in the accident.

The second motorcyclist, aged 21, from Staffordshire, received serious leg injuries and was taken for treatment to Crewe's Leighton Hospital.

The A534, which passes through Acton and Faddiley towards Wrexham, was branded as one of the most dangerous roads in the country last year.

It was one of five accident black spots in the North West identified in an AA campaign to slash road deaths.

Nationally it was rated number seven in a danger top ten based on fatal and serious accidents between 1997 and 1999.

The road has been targeted by police campaigns and traffic-calming measures including solar-powered signs that detect the speed of oncoming traffic and react by activating slow down messages.

Despite these efforts the road claimed another motorcyclist in April.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have seen Thursday's crash to contact the traffic department on 01244 613341.
