I AM totally gob-smacked with the news that the decision has been made to close the town's historic baths.
This council and the committee that was left with the decision have let the people of Warrington down.
The questions people should be asking now are:
l Were six community centres saved for the price of Warrington baths?
l If so, were the six community centres really for the axe?
l Is it another ploy from this council who would rather keep the taxpayers of Warrington in the dark over future decisions?
This council has let the Warrington swimmers young and old down in a big way.
Do we hear of a new 50-metre or multi-pool complex being built in its place?
No. This council would probably want to build another car park on the site of the baths for the extending Golden Square.
This council wants to spend taxpayers' money on skittle maintenance (oops, that's another story).
What is now left of old Warrington?
Can we ever trust this council to listen to the people who pay the council tax?
The cost of £2.5 million is no excuse to take away our history, swimming clubs and Victorian old town.
