A DISABLED woman has vowed never to come back to Crewe after she was fined for parking in a non-disabled space when all the disabled bays were full.

Varia Miller, 55 from Winsford, was horrified when she returned to her car that she had parked in a non-disabled space in Crewe Market Centre when the seven disabled spaces were full, to see she had been fined £25 for not buying a ticket.

"I parked my car in the car park behind Argos but because the disabled spaces were full I parked it in one of the hundred other spaces that are available for non-disabled people and displayed my badge," she said.

"But when I returned I found I had been given a ticket and fined £25.

"I went to find an attendant who told me the car park was privately owned and by law they only have to provide seven spaces for disabled people.

She added: "Basically what Crewe is saying is that it doesn't want anymore than seven disabled people in the town at the same time which is terrible - they are discriminating against us and I won't be going back again after this.

"I am not complaining about it just because it has happened to me, but it is the fact that there are so few parking spaces for disabled people in the town."

Mrs Miller was infuriated even further when the Euro Car Parks attendant told her that there was a sign on the pay and display machine telling disabled people they have to pay if they park in a non-disabled space.

"There is no point putting a notice on the machine because disabled people don't have to pay so we would never see it," she said.
