Warriors group make huge waves
A GROUP of 20 Warriors of Warrington swimmers made huge waves in the COSACCS Designated Open Meet in Stoke at the weekend.
Between them, they won 36 medals for top six places, including seven golds, 10 silver and three bronze.
Every swimmer achieved a personal best time in at least one event. The Warrior with the biggest medal haul was 11-year-old Laura Blyth, who bagged one gold, three silvers and one bronze.
Other gold medallists were David Whitfield, 10-year boys' 100 metres and 200m breaststroke, Eleanor Vail, 12-year girls' 200m butterfly, Jonathan Gatley, 13-year boys' 200m individual medley, Helen Robinson, 16-year/over 100m breaststroke, and Helen Crookes, 16-year/over 200m breaststroke.
Martin Bosson also excelled. He beat his personal best by nine seconds in the 11-year 400m freestyle and four seconds in the 100m freestyle.
Ten-year David Whitfield, 11-year Shaun Myles and 13-year Stuart Leonard also broke personal best times by five seconds or more.
Entry limitation
ENTRIES are now being taken for the John Smith Trophy which will be held at the Red Lion in Stockton Heath.
The entrance fee is £7 and the competition is limited to 64 entries.
The dates of play are, first and second rounds, September 2, 3, 4, 6; third round, September 11; finals night, September 13.
All entries with the entrance fee and two dates should be sent to Dave Griffiths, 3 Ash Lane, Appleton, Warrington, WA4 3DD. Cheques should be made payable to Red Lion Bowling Club.
Merit competition
MATCHES for the A and B sections of Warrington Women's Evening Bowls League's Parks Merit will be played at St. Elphins Park on Monday and Wednesday.
There will be a 6pm practice and a 6.30pm start. All games will be 21-up off scratch.
The semi-finals and final of all the sections will be played at the same time on Friday.
Meanwhile, Sunday's Pairs competition matches were cancelled due to bad weather. They will reconvene at a later date.
Eric Smith event
WARRINGTON Sunday Night Parks' Mixed Pairs Bowls League's Eric Smith competition will be held at Victoria Park on Sunday.
There will be a 10.30am prompt start and an 11am scratch.

Guardian Pairs
WARRINGTON Public Parks' Bowls League's Guardian Pairs competition will be held at Victoria Park on Wednesday starting at 6.30pm.

Yates victorious
STOCKTON Heath Pensioners' Bowls Club's Richardson Cup was won by K. Yates and the runner-up was J. Dunn.
Secretaries' meet
GRAPPENHALL Darts League will hold a secretary's meeting at GYCA on Wednesday starting at 8pm.
