The climb came about because of Alford A's hefty loss at King and Queen.

Brendan Brady, 21-1 and Tommy Johnstone, 21-11, were the best winners for Grange while Mal Cook replied with a 21-13 card.

Alford Hall were beaten 222-170 by King and Queen A, who were indebted to 21-8 winners John Taylor, Dave Penketh, Bill Farrell and Larry Wells.

Monks Sports A defeated Tetley A 238-216. Their top guns were John Nolan, 21-13 and Bill Carty, 21-14. Kenny Hart replied with a 21-14 card.

Pierpoints A lead the way in Section C after their 237-173 victory over King and Queen B. Their best performers were Wilf Hands, 21-5 and M. Ellison, 21-8. P. Deakin replied with a 21-11 card.

Second-placed Cadishead Cons drew at Brooklands B. R. Fiddler and D. Burke won 21-13 for the home side while Keith Lee triumphed 21-6 for Cadishead.

Tetley B took over third spot with a 220-205 success against Saracens Head. Their top winner was Sammy Spurr, 21-7. Mick Cartwright took the visitors' sweep 21-11.

Wins from R. Wagner, 21-5 and S. Harrison, 21-9, helped Woolston B to a 212-195 victory over Eagle A while Post Office maintained their advantage at the top of Section D with a 237-176 success at Kings Club B. J. Oakes, 21-7 and A. Heald, 21-8 were their best winners. H. Litton replied 21-11.

Stag A moved into second place following a 221-212 victory at GESM B. Dave Donoghue and Roy Clarke shared their sweep with 21-13 cards.

Third-placed Crosfields A trounced Monk Sports B 244-170. Their individual star performances came from T. Lamont, 21-5 and T. Wrench, 21-6.

H. Taylor, 21-1 and V. Williams, 21-4, were the aces in the pack as Hollins Park A overcame Red Lion B 214-170. Ron Ritchie prevailed 21-4 for Lion.

Alford Hall B hit top spot in Section E after defeating Fiddlers Ferry 234-162. Their star players were M. Clayton, 21-6 and A. Elliott, 21-7.

Rylands C slipped to second after a 226-202 defeat at St. Josephs while wins from I. Perdue, 21-2 and N. Burrows, 21-4 helped Smithys to a 242-127 victory over St. Albans.

G. Gamble, R. Horton and J. Sixsmith all returned 21-7 cards for Tetley C in their 223-161 success against Pierpoints B. B. Buckley took the visitors' sweep 21-4.

Lawrence Lally recorded a 21-5 win as Culcheth Sports hammered Woolston C 226-147.
